Tonchidot announces New CEO

Tonchidot to continue commitment to innovative mobile services under new leadership

Shunjuku, TOKYO – DEC 08, 2011 - Leading Mobile Augmented Reality (AR) company Tonchidot today announced that Masahito Taniguchi will be joining them as their new Chief Executive Officer. Formerly an executive officer at Rakuten, he will be taking the lead in Tonchidot’s further innovation in the smartphone services space. Founder and previous CEO Takahito Iguchi will be assuming the role as Chief Marketing Officer of the company.

Profile of new CEO, Masahito Taniguchi

He spent several years at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), where from 2004, he supported the government’s Structuring Reform Strategy as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister. From 2007, he initiated METI’s environmental and energy-saving initiatives, including the hosting of the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit. He joined online consumer services giant Rakuten in 2008, and launched the e-book business unit as executive officer in 2011, leveraging strategic partnerships with Kinokuniya, Sony, and Panasonic.

He joined Tonchidot in 2011, inspired by Tonchidot’s vision and the role it plays in the rapid evolution of mobile services.
